We’re working hard on major improvement work at M271 Redbridge Roundabout. This work will complement other junction improvement work at junctions 5 and 7 to improve journey times, reduce congestion and support local and strategic economic growth.
As part of the improvement scheme:
We’re adding a free-flow lane from the M271 Southbound towards the port
Improving shared paths
Installing a new better footbridge
Removing signals that give buses priority
Widening the roundabout
Planting hundreds of shrubs and new trees on the roundabout
Resurfacing the roundabout with new ‘low-noise’ material
We will put fully signed diversion routes in place for any full carriageway closures. We apologise for any disruption; please plan and allow extra time for your journey.

Progress update
This week we’ve been focussing our work on subways, cabling and utilities and continuing to work on the walls. Next week we’ll be working on the walls, cabling and preparing for the bridge installation.
Coronavirus update
We are still working on the M271 with many non-essential staff homeworking in accordance with government guidelines. Businesses are reminded to check their insurance and act accordingly.
Update Old Redbridge Road
As you know, contact was unfortunately made with a mains gas pipe whilst working on our scheme. Since then we’ve been working hard to ensure this issue is rectified as quickly and as safely as possible so we can reopen Old Redbridge Road. We thank you for your patience.
