19 September 2019 Lester Aldridge partner becomes part-time judge

Oct 9, 2019

Lester Aldridge is delighted to announce that one of its litigation partners has today been appointed to the part-time judicial post of Recorder

Michael Veal has been appointed with effect from 16 September 2019, and will sit on the Western Circuit.

The Queen has appointed 159 Recorders on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Robert Buckland QC MP, and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, The Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon. The jurisdiction of a Recorder is broadly similar to that of a Circuit Judge.

LA is thrilled that Michael Veal is amongst those to have been appointed.

Managing Partner at Lester Aldridge, Matthew Barrow, has said, “LA is extremely proud of Michael on his appointment as a Recorder and congratulates him. This selection process has been immensely competitive, and the diversity figures published by the Judicial Office in July 2019 suggest that only 6% of Recorders are solicitors. In addition to this new role, Michael will, of course, also remain in full time practice at LA.”
