Let’s take step four safely
As social distancing rules are lifted on Monday 19th, there’s no need to rush back to everything straight away. Many people are worried about going back to a more ‘normal’ life, so it’s important to respect others and help where we can.
The government is still recommending a number of things you can do to slow the spread:
- Wear face coverings in crowded or enclosed areas such as on public transport
- When meeting people you don’t usually spend time with, minimise your number of social contacts and how long you spend with them, keep a distance where possible and consider wearing a face covering
- Take twice-weekly asymptomatic tests and record your results.
Get your COVID-19 vaccination
Getting your coronavirus vaccination in Portsmouth couldn’t be easier. It’s quick and painless, but best of all it’ll protect you and others against infection and can help us get back to a more normal way of life. If you’re 18 and over you can now get your first dose, and your second dose if it’s been at least eight weeks since your first.
Book online or come along to one of these extra walk-in opportunities now available – no appointments needed:
- St James’ Hospital, Locksway Road, 8am-7.30pm, throughout July
- Goldchem Pharmacy, Albert Road, Southsea, various times, daily until 17 July
- Laly’s Pharmacy, Guildhall Walk, various times, daily until 25 July.
Testing when you don’t have symptoms
Doing regular twice-weekly test when you don’t have symptoms and recording your results online is a responsible and reassuring thing to do once the rules are lifted at step four. Here’s why – one in three people who catch coronavirus show no symptoms but can pass it on, even if they have had the vaccine. Home tests kits are free and can be collected from Somerstown Central and many other locations across Portsmouth.
Keep a look out for symptoms
No matter how mild, if you notice any symptoms of coronavirus – a high temperature, new continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – you must still self-isolate and book a PCR test online or calling by 119.
And to help you self-isolate, our new handy guide explains when, how and why to self-isolate, where to go for help with everything from money worries and food to practical help, like walking the dog. There is even a countdown calendar with ideas on how to while away 10 days of self-isolation. Be prepared, download your copy now!
Become a community champion
We are looking for volunteers to become community champions to help increase uptake of the COVID-19 vaccination.
We need to reach everyone in our communities to explain why it’s so important to get the vaccine, and need your help to share up-to-date and trusted information with your community. We are particularly looking to recruit individuals from diverse communities across the city, but welcome applications from anyone aged 18+ and living or working in Portsmouth.
You’d carry out this voluntary role from home, so can do it whenever is most convenient to you. Find out more and register your interest below.
