The Business South Lifestyle and Culture action group is supporting the Southampton City of Culture bid and will be helping to share messaging with businesses in the Central South region.
Chair of the Lifestyle and Culture action group, Lisa Lavis, attended the first meeting of the Regional Task Force with Kate Proh, Business Support Executive at Business South and outlined how the action group can help.
Lisa said: “The action group will be able to take information about the City of Culture bid and share it with business leaders. By doing so we can ensure that businesses are aware of developments to support the bid and find out how it will benefit us all.”
Councillor Satvir Kaur, Cabinet Member for Culture and Homes on Southampton City Council, welcomed the involvement of the action group.
“Southampton’s business community will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the city’s UK City of Culture bid. With the Lifestyle & Culture Action group acting as a conduit to reach businesses across the city, we welcome the opportunity to work closely with members of the group. Our collaboration will ensure that local businesses are kept up to date with the progress of the bid and that they know how they become involved with an initiative that could be transformational for Southampton.
“Research shows that culture brings huge economic and social benefits to a city. When Hull was awarded the title in 2017, £300 million was added to their tourism market and almost £17 million to their local economy. Not only this, but becoming the UK City of Culture would make Southampton a city where people want to work; a city that attracts talent and expertise to our local businesses,” she said.
