EHDC has a new Chairman for our 50th anniversary after Cllr Catherine Clark was elected to follow Cllr Anthony Williams in the role for the coming year.
Every year EHDC elects a Chairman to be the civic head of the council and represent the organisation across the district and beyond.
Councillor Anthony Williams’ year was packed with visits to local community groups, businesses and events.
And Cllr Clark, member for Whitehill Chase, is hoping to see as much of the district and meet as many of our incredible local residents as she can during her time in the role.
If you’re hosting a community function or event or you want to shine a spotlight on the good work of a local group or an individual, you can invite the Chairman to visit.
After being elected to the position Cllr Clark said: “I am looking forward to my year as Chairman of EHDC, especially as it’s such a special year as we celebrate our 50th anniversary of the council. I can’t wait to get out and meet the residents in our area at the many events that are organised each year.
“After all that’s partly what being a councillor is about, meeting people and listening to their problems to help fix them if we can.”
Cllr Williams, the councillor for Headley, said he was privileged to serve the residents of East Hampshire as Chairman for a second time in his 27-year term as a councillor.
He said: “During my civic year I have had the honour of representing my district at events organised by the Mayors and Chairmen of the other boroughs and districts in Hampshire, plus the unitary authorities of Portsmouth and Southampton for whom the civic head is a Lord Mayor in each case.
“The events include various civic church services plus services at Winchester Cathedral (Law Sunday and the Service of Welcome for the new Bishop) and Portsmouth Cathedral for the Installation of the Archdeacon of the Meon.
“Civic events included visits to stately homes, charity concerts and dinners and the Army Air Museum at Middle Wallop. In turn I held my Civic Service at St Peter’s, Petersfield, and hosted a very well-attended visit to Jane Austen’s house and Chawton House.
“I had the honour of meeting the Duke of Gloucester when he visited Butser Ancient Farm. I have visited several schools and colleges within the district, attended council meetings at our three town councils, visited various employers throughout the district, and attended young persons awards evenings.
“I am sure that my successor Cllr Catherine Clark will enjoy the events and the role of Chairman during her civic year as much as I have.”
Alongside our new Chairman, the council also elected Cllr Graham Hill as Vice-Chairman. Cllr Hill will support the Chairman in her duties over the coming year and attend functions and events when the Chairman is unavailable.
