On 19th October, the High Court refused permission for GOESA to bring forward a judicial review of Eastleigh Borough Council’s decision to approve the airport’s runway extension, dismissing all seven grounds of their claim.
On 25th October, GOESA decided to appeal the High Court’s judgment. Southampton Airport is disappointed by this decision, as it will further delay the much-needed economic benefits and employment opportunities that the runway plans will deliver. However, it is worth noting that campaigners have dropped one of their grounds for objection in this new legal bid.
It remains for the Courts to assess whether opposition campaigners can bring a formal judicial review of the runway decision.
However, in light of the extensive scrutiny and public consultations undertaken by Eastleigh Borough Council, the airport is confident that the Courts will back the Council’s resolution to grant planning approval.
