5 August 2019 Solent University receives sports accolade

Solent has received the University Bronze Charter Mark award from England Athletics, one of only 6 universities to receive a charter mark award to date

England Athletics, which supports more than 1,500 affiliated sports clubs and organisations across the UK, stated: “Solent University is a welcoming environment for all student athletes, regardless of ability level. Training sessions are available for all events and elite, club and social members are all catered for.

“Specialist facilities include a therapy suite, nutritional support and a physiology, biomechanics and psychology laboratory (including four altitude simulators), a University High Performance Gym, spin studio, wide range of free weights and weights machines.”

In addition to the sport and fitness facilities at the university, the student athletics club enjoys a strong partnership with nearby Southampton AC, benefiting from the coaching expertise and facilities available at the club.

Martin Nailor, Head of Solent Sport at the University, said: “Solent is renowned for its excellent sports programmes and with the recent completion of our new sports complex it takes our offer for students and training athletes to another level.

“It’s great to have our reputation recognised in this way.”
