7 June 2019 Southampton Airport celebrates being Best Airport in Europe with special thank you to all staff
Staff at Southampton Airport celebrated cementing its status as Best Airport In Europe today with a special confetti-covered cake and the striking of a new lanyard
It was announced in March that the Hampshire airport had won Best Airport in Europe for customer service excellence in the prestigious Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality Awards.
The honour was bestowed in the medium sized category, for airports servicing between two and five million passengers per year.
The awards recognise those airports around the world that deliver the best customer experience in the opinion of their own passengers and represent the highest possible accolade for airport operators around the world.
At a special event today, staff from departments across the airport site joined passengers at check-in to share a celebratory slice of cake and be presented with a brand new lanyard which proudly displays the airport’s award-winning status.
Southampton Airport’s Managing Director Neil Garwood said: “We are thrilled to have won this award. We know just how special our airport is but it is really gratifying to see it recognised by our passengers.
“This award belongs to everybody who works at the airport, all of our staff and our business partners who work so hard together to keep us running smoothly and providing an excellent service to all those passing through.
“Our passengers have given us a massive vote of confidence in the service we provide, and this is testament to the hard work of everyone at the airport. With our ambitious growth plans, our future has never looked more exciting.”
The Airport Service Quality (ASQ) programme is the world’s leading airport passenger service and benchmarking programme measuring passengers’ satisfaction across 37 key performance indicators. Three quarters of the world’s 100 busiest airports are part of the ASQ programme which means that, in 2018, more than half of the world’s 8.3 billion travellers passed through an ASQ airport.
Three other airports in Europe also received ASQ awards in this category: London City, Tallinn Airport in Estonia, and Zagreb in Croatia.
The award ceremony will be held in Bali this September.
