Shining a spotlight on the future

Maritime UK Week has been celebrated in BCP with events showcasing diverse opportunities in the marine sector.

Delegates at Poole Marine Hub’s ‘Technology and Innovation’ event heard from local business about how they’ve collaborated to improve products and services, and the range of support available, from AUB Innovation Studio to a Climate Essentials subscription.

The week concluded with a Marine STEM Challenge organised by BCP Council as part of the Interreg SPEED project. The event brought together teams of year 8 and 9 students from local schools mentored by apprentices from Sunseeker and business leaders from IoTech Limited and Discover Science Christchurch. Students competed to build the best clean propulsion system and the winning team was from Broadstone Middle School.

Hosted at Poole Harbour Commissioners, a tour of the port raised awareness of the huge variety of jobs that are available within the maritime sector.

Companies gear up for circular future

Delegates at BCP Council’s Towards Net Zero event on 23 September heard from local businesses and circular economy experts, who are leading the way in carbon reduction.

Delegates also had the opportunity to tour Lush Cosmetics’ Green Hub, the Poole based brand’s circular recycling site.
