Paris Smith Training - Technology in the Workplace

Paris Smith LLP - 1 London Road, Southampton, SO15 2AE

Technology in the workplace is now commonplace. Most employers use forms of technology everyday to ensure their business, and its employees, are as efficient and productive as possible

Examples of technology in the workplace include:

  • tracking devices;

  • smart phones;

  • social media;

  • check in technology;

  • bluetooth headsets; and

  • wearable technology.

In this session, we will consider the effect of technology in the workplace, including the pro’s and con’s of technology, the associated risks for employers, the importance of having a robust policy in place, monitoring rights and disciplinary procedure. We will consider how employment law runs alongside technology in the workplace. In particular, we will consider to what extent employer’s can monitor their employee’s use of technology and what disciplinary action they should take if they are concerned about an employee’s use of technology. Disciplinary issues can arise in many situations, including where an employer is concerned an employee is accessing inappropriate material at work or working on personal matter during work hours.
