Firm helps youngsters carve out a career in construction
National Regional Property Group is encouraging more youngsters to explore careers in construction and the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects in the industry.
It’s not all muddy boots and working out in the cold. That was the message from National Regional Property Group, which is encouraging more youngsters to explore careers in construction and the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects in the industry.
The company took part in EBP South’s Big Bang @ Solent event at the Ageas Bowl last week (April 26) to showcase the wide variety of roles there are in the developer and construction industries.
Jo Burfitt, Business Manager at National Regional Property Group said: “Quite often when young people think of construction they think about bricklaying, carpentry and being out on a muddy building site. We want to open their eyes to the many different jobs that make up the construction industry, from planning and architecture to surveying, engineering and administration roles.”
The Big Bang @ Solent is one of the biggest careers events on the South Coast for secondary school children aged 11 - 16. It aims to encourage young people to go into STEM careers.
National Regional Property Group set up stall with PMC Construction at the event and talked to young people about careers they might not have thought were available in construction. There was interactive fun too, with a chance to try building with Lego and balloons.
Sharron Hampson, Training & Development Manager at PMC said: “There are so many different roles involved in building and developing new homes. It was our pleasure to talk to students all about them. We know first-hand what a rewarding industry the construction one is to work in and we hope to inspire a new generation to join in through our involvement in this event.”
Jo added: “As a company that’s all about creating new communities we believe it’s important to give back in the areas we operate. That’s why we’re delighted to be involved in events like these, which help to inspire young people and give them the information they need to plan their career journeys.”
