Southampton Airport's Fire Service sets to cycle from Aberdeen to Southampton for charity
Six members of Southampton Airport’s Fire Service will cycle across all three AGS Group airports in support of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA)
The cycling event will start on 23 June from Aberdeen Airport, through to Glasgow Airport, with the group stopping at HIOWAA’s headquarters in Thruxton, before finally arriving at Southampton Airport on 29 June.
Darren Nield, Southampton Airport’s Fire Service Manager, said: “This is an incredible challenge that will allow our firefighters to not only test their own abilities but to raise vital funds for our charity partner. We would urge everyone to donate to this fantastic cause.”
Ray Southam, Partnerships Manager for HIOWAA, said: ““We are always amazed by the outstanding effort Southampton Airport put into their fundraising to support Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. The money raised from this challenge will help to ensure our Critical Care Teams are able to reach those who need us in their hour of need.”
The airport’s firefighters will cover approximately 655 miles across the six days, cycling more than 100 miles a day. This is the equivalent of running the London Marathon, but taking into consideration the terrain of the Scottish borders, Lake District and Pennines.
