This year, Fareham Borough Council will celebrate the 50th year of Fareham having Borough Status and will be acknowledging this at through themed events.
As part of these celebrations, construction engineering company for the south of England, Mountjoy Ltd, will be sponsoring a giant sandpit. This ‘Pop Up Beach’ will be installed in time for the summer, between July and September, inside Fareham Shopping Centre, and families can enjoy this for free.
A spokesperson from Mountjoy said “We are delighted to be supporting this project in partnership with Fareham Borough Council. Mountjoy have worked alongside the council for a number of years delivering repairs within their void housing stock, and we were glad to be approached to deliver the project for the local community. With materials kindly donated by our supplier, Travis Perkins, our team will be completing the works overnight, building and installing the sandpit to provide a safe area for children of all ages to play and develop their physical, social, and cognitive skills.”
The sandpit will be launched at a one-off ‘Borough’s Birthday Bash’ weekend event, on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 July from 11am-3pm. Taking place within Fareham Shopping Centre and the pedestrianised area of West Street, there will be lots to see and do as well as funfair rides, children’s activities and more.
Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Connie Hockley, said: “We are so grateful to Mountjoy and Travis Perkins for sponsoring our Pop Up Beach, which has been incredibly well received in previous years. It will be open for visitors at our special Birthday Bash event to celebrate Fareham’s 50th year as a Borough and I encourage the community to come to Fareham town centre for some free family fun this summer.”
