Introduction

The Maritime and Transport Action Group aims to proactively connect the Central South across sea, air, land, and rail to influence policy, drive change, and create opportunities for our industries, workforce, and local economy.

The group is committed to identifying and executing measurable actions that will, in the long term, attract investment and development, bring talent to the region, and establish the Central South as the UK’s gateway.

Our Goal

The Maritime and Transport Action Group is made up of influential key players within our industries, each of whom plays a vital part in connecting the region to the rest of the UK and overseas. Our members are responsible for driving change and have strong connections with Government. We need your strategic input to help shape our agenda for the region and sectors and for the success for all members and their organisations.

MTAG

Maritime & Transport Careers Programme

The Maritime & Transport Careers Programme was established by the Maritime & Transport Action Group in autumn 2023 to address the sector’s future skills and workforce needs. The programme connects businesses with schools and colleges across the Central South, inspiring the next generation to explore careers in the maritime and transport sectors.

From careers events and school engagement activities, including its GCSE Career Cards, to its flagship annual Careers Day, MTCP showcases the diverse opportunities available across the industry.

The next Careers Day will take place on 19th November 2026 at the ABP Ocean Cruise Terminal.

Engagement Project

Joint Funding Initiative

In a pioneering move, this engagement project marks a first of its kind in the UK. Uniquely, it is jointly funded by private sector employers and the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

This collaborative approach underscores the Maritime and Transport Action Group’s commitment to uniting key stakeholders for the betterment of the Central South region. The joint funding not only bolsters the project’s resources but also reinforces its credibility, attracting attention at both the governmental and industrial levels.

Influencing Transport Policy Decisions

The Maritime and Transport Action Group recently participated in a Dragons’ Den-style session with the Transport Select Committee. This unique platform allowed us to present lines of enquiry that are critical to our industries and the Central South region. It showcased the collective voice and influence of MTAG, emphasising our commitment to shaping policy and driving change in transportation and maritime sectors. This engagement not only underscores our proactive approach but also fortifies our relations with key governmental bodies.
