Introduction

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the Central South serves as a crucial conduit for dialogue between regional MPs and business leaders. Business South proudly takes on the secretariat role, using its Action Groups to shape discussions and activities for the APPG.

With four annual meetings at Portcullis House, the forum allows for mutual exchange of insights and strategies on pressing issues.

Our Goal

The group is a useful barometer and provides a two-way street, whereby regional MPs can also gain insights and feedback on topics that are currently occupying our time.

Four meetings are planned for the year at Portcullis House. Business leaders are invited to address the APPG for the Central South to share experiences and potential solutions to issues.

People & Skills

Apprenticeship Levy

In relation to the Apprenticeship Levy, the APPG for the Central South has made significant strides. Following a successful presentation to regional MPs, a crucial meeting with the Skills Minister has been arranged. This provides a unique opportunity to directly influence policy and advocate for practical changes that can benefit both employers and apprentices in the Central South region.

Central South: A call for housing change

As part of the APPG’s initiatives, a dedicated working group has been compiling a housing document for the region, giving a snapshot of where we currently are and suggesting what could be done to ease current housing pressures.

Infrastructure

Energy

With developments in the Central South stalling due to capacity constraints on the National Grid and the recent news that it can take a decade to build a new power line due to planning restrictions, energy has become a major discussion point for our Regenerate South Action Group.

Research has been undertaken by Savills led by their Central South office and this was shared with MPs at a meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Central South.
