Southampton’s hospitality industry begins it’s recovery after being one of the hardest hit industries during the COVID-19 pandemic, and with it brings employment opportunities across the city.
In 2020, despite the Government’s furlough scheme, according to the industry’s trade body, there were 660,000 hospitality jobs lost across the UK, a fifth of the industry.
Since Boris’ next phase on the roadmap has allowed hospitality venues to welcome guests indoors and reopen their leisure facilities, a new hope shines on the industry.
Members of the Southampton Region Hoteliers Association have been opening their doors to new guests and new staff, as recruitment opportunities begin to grow.
Chair of the Southampton Region Hoteliers Association, Nathan Chart, says, “Venues across the city have worked tirelessly to ensure the highest standards of safety measures are in place. Keeping guests and staff safe is a priority for every venue. It’s been a long time coming welcoming leisure guests back into the building and we are enjoying the buzz of visitors old and new. The reopening of leisure facilities and hospitality is not only great for our guests, but it’s a turning point for employment in hospitality. Hotels and venues are recruiting and with the British staycation set to be at an all time high, we look forward to many more job opportunities opening up.”
Current full and part time job opportunities in the Southampton region include managers, supervisors, pastry and chef de partie vacancies, bar and waiting staff, housekeeping and night staff, front of house, guest experience and events roles and cleaners and spa positions. Many offer on the job training and career development opportunities.
As the COVID journey continues, it’s of no surprise that many are proceeding with caution, but thanks to the vaccination programme and venues being prepared with safety measures in place, the industry can look forward to a thriving summer ahead.
