Fareham Borough Council is delighted to announce that construction of a new Affordable Housing development, Rose Court, is now complete. The occasion was marked today with the keys to the site being handed over by the developer to the Mayor of Fareham, Cllr Pamela Bryant.
Utilising a former disused brownfield site, Rose Court comprises 18 one and two bedroom apartments, to be made available at a Social Rent (the most affordable of affordable homes). Located on the corner of Fareham Park Road and Highlands Road, these homes will be occupied by households from the Council’s housing register.
All the homes will be offered at a Social Rent thanks to a successful grant bid to Homes England for over £1.2m. Fareham Housing then worked together with Solent-based MH Architects and local building company FE Chase & Sons to deliver this project.
Due to ongoing challenges relating to the pandemic, there were some delays in the scheme, but it was able to progress in two phases. Homes completed in phase one, were completed and occupied in February 2021 and this ceremony marks the final handover of homes on the development.
Executive Member for Housing at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Fred Birkett, said: “There is a growing need for affordable housing in Fareham, so we are thrilled that this new development is now complete and more residents from our housing register can now move in. We were keen to work with Solent-based companies to develop this brownfield site which had remained unused for many years. Everyone involved in this project has worked hard to ensure that it was completed as quickly as possible, despite incredibly challenging circumstances. I’m looking forward to seeing the development filled with new residents very shortly.”
Rose Court resident, Leah Simmons, moved into her apartment when phase one of the project was completed. She added: “Before I moved in, I was living with my parents. As a wheelchair user it was not ideal as there were steps into the front door and only a first-floor bathroom, so I had to crawl around the house. It was well worth the wait for my apartment as it is fully adapted for me with a height-adjustable kitchen, wet room and it is so much better than I was expecting. I have been here for three months now and I am settled and very happy.”
