Business South is pleased to be supporting Guildford Borough Council in their bid for Guildford to be granted city status for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022.
Guildford is the county town for Surrey and is a centre for heritage, culture and sport. They have a world class university and excellent schools, with a vibrant local economy and many businesses at the forefront of cutting-edge technologies and are a significant contributor to the UK economy. Their distinct historic and cultural identity, rich history and modern, outward looking focus would make the borough an excellent candidate for city status.
Business South tirelessly promotes the Central South region and firmly believes in taking every opportunity to promote the area to attract both inward investment and talent to drive future growth. This goal nests in the organisation’s purpose to promote the region, its people and prosperity, an ambition willingly shared by Business South Champions and Strategic Partners.
Andy Swift, Champion Director from Business South said: “The accolade of city status for Guildford is suitable recognition of a vibrant local economy, driven by many extremely successful businesses and institutions, and will also prove to be an additional ‘jewel in the crown’ of the wider region.
“As a Business South Champion Guildford Borough Council has always taken a leading role in supporting all our local and regional iniatives and their vision to look beyond regional boundaries is an exemplar to many and merits special mention in the consideration of city status.”
