Our latest Start Networking event had the perfect blend of great venue, brilliant speaker and a wonderful group of network novices.
Sharing his expertise when it comes to networking was the effervescent Lee Peck founder of Lee Peck Media, talking about his journey from working on a pig farm near Scarborough to Hollywood. He used his personal story to share invaluable hints and tips about making the most from networking.
He illustrated how networking can change your life with a great story about how a conversation with the postboy in a company where he was working, led him to fulfil his true ambition of becoming a journalist on a weekly paper and eventually to become a presenter on TV.
He advised the audience to:
- Be bold
- Be authentic
- Dress appropriately
- Say yes to opportunities that might take you out of your comfort zone
- Take a breath to allow others into the conversation
- Be Interested in other people
- Make an impact and establish a presence
- Ask others to introduce you
- Follow-up on email and down be down-hearted if you don’t get a response
Mark Williams, founder of New Forest Spirits, ensured the event went with a swing by sharing the finer points of gin tasting and what makes choice.
Business South Group CEO, Leigh-Sara Timberlake, said: “It was brilliant to see so many people join us and Lee was really captivating. We are so lucky to be able to draw on the expertise of Champions to share their knowledge and advice – and we really appreciate Lee giving us his time and energy.
“We are running a series of these events during the year, with different speakers and would encourage people to come along and learn in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.”
