Transport and warehousing managers remain optimistic about the year ahead and prospects for the industry, according to a new survey conducted by Meachers Global Logistics.
Industry professionals gave an average figure of 54 when asked to state a number between 1 and 100 on how optimistic they were about the year ahead. The survey, carried out at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, was created to help inform a new White Paper by the logistics firm and find out from those directly involved and affected, how they see the industry evolving.
Gary Whittle, Commercial Director at Meachers Global Logistics said: “Considering the timing of the survey, the optimism shown in the result is perhaps surprising. It may be only slightly over the midpoint, but it does suggest that people in the industry are looking at the latent strengths of the sector and its ability to prosper in the long term. This strength often comes from the ability of transport and warehousing professionals to rapidly adapt to the circumstances and challenges they face.”
The survey pressed respondents on their view of environmental factors and how this could influence future business decisions, with electric vehicles topping the list when it comes to innovations that will shape the future of the industry. Meachers also found that 100 per cent of respondents agree that environmental sustainability is important to how transport and warehousing managers do business and the suppliers they choose with nearly three-quarters saying it was ‘very important’ or of ‘vital importance’.
Gary continued: “I think now more than ever is the time businesses will be looking at ways they can go beyond their competitors, particularly with their environmental credentials and let actions speak louder than words.”
