Over 40 people came together to discuss the challenges facing the local economy during a virtual event hosted by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
Held on Thursday 9th July, the first Economic Recovery Summit brought businesses and partner organisations from the borough together to tackle issues as the local economy begins to recover from some of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Participants focused on how those impacted by COVID-19 can return to work, start a new career or utilise their skills in new ways, as well as discussing how the council’s Climate Emergency agenda can support plans for future economic growth.
Leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Cllr Ken Rhatigan said: “We know this has been a very difficult time for many people and businesses who have been adversely impacted by the pandemic.
“The virtual summit was a great opportunity to take stock of the challenges faced by our local economy in the current climate and to bring together organisations and businesses across the borough to discuss where support is most required. The solutions to supporting our residents and businesses will need to be delivered in partnership so it is important that we work together from the outset.
“This is the first step in a long journey to help businesses and residents to access the support they need as the borough’s economy starts to recover.”
