Regional airline Eastern Airways has further demonstrated its commitment to the Central South region by joining business representation organisation Business South.
The move comes shortly after Eastern Airways commenced another new route from Southampton Airport to Dublin as part of its expansion plans at the south coast of England airport.
Eastern Airways has expanded the number of routes it operates from Southampton to seven with frequency of flights expected to increase further as demand increases following the return to air travel following the reduced Covid-19 travel restrictions and return of business and leisure travel. The airline also intends to have up to five aircraft located at Southampton.
Southampton Airport is aiming to attract new airlines and protect 2000 jobs and the airport itself by extending the airport’s runway by 164 metres.
Business South and its network of Champions have shown support for the runway extension, rallying a collective voice from regional businesses backing the plans; emphasising the regional economic importance of Southampton Airport.
Business South facilitates collaborative working for regional economic benefit through its network of Champions, an influential voice of business across the region whilst also supporting improved connectivity between businesses to drive decisions and support economic prosperity.
Laura Jurgens, Regional Development Manager of Eastern Airways said:
“As Eastern Airways is increasingly restoring route connections to and from Southampton, we are delighted to reinforce our commitment to the region by becoming a Business South Champion.
Regional airports like Southampton are vital for regional economies and the Airport’s development plans will strengthen the fundamental connectivity that they enable.
The Business South Champions initiative demonstrates the solidarity of the region’s businesses and Eastern Airways looks forward to being part of this network working collaboratively for positive change.”
Leigh-Sara Timberlake, Group Chief Executive of Business South said:
“The Central South is the UK’s global gateway, and our ability to remain connected is more important now than ever.
Regional airlines like Eastern Airways, working alongside with Southampton Airport, will play a crucial role in our post-covid economic recovery; providing vital connectivity to the rest of the UK and Europe, re-opening routes to enable business and leisure growth.
Business South will be working in unanimity with Eastern Airways, Southampton Airport and the region’s businesses to facilitate support for developments like the Airport’s runway extension that will enable robust recovery and growth.”
