Introduction

Sustainable South has a commitment to share best practices and join forces to make things happen.

Building on the sound work of the Green Halo partnership, which encompassed local authorities, the New Forest National Park and academia, Sustainable South Action Group plans to endorse and develop the Greenprint priorities.

Sustainable South brings businesses to the table with the public sector, academia and New Forest National Park. Together they will be using these five priorities to focus debate and activity.

Our Goals

1. Net Zero with Nature

Providing the necessary leadership to reduce carbon emissions, taking a more integrated and holistic approach by working with nature to build a zero-carbon economy and communities.

2. Natural Health Services

Strengthening wellbeing, physical and mental health while tackling health inequalities through greater access to our world-class natural environments, alongside bringing nature into our urban communities.

3. World class blue and green environments

Protecting, restoring and enhancing our distinctive, high-quality blue and green environments – supporting a strong economy and a healthy, inclusive society through the natural capital and ecosystem services these environments provide.

4. Creating great places through quality in design and build

Encouraging innovative ways to create high-quality, inclusive, and sustainable places for people and nature, adopting a low-carbon approach to make the region a strong exemplar.

5. Centre for excellence for green skills and jobs

Improving local skills gaps by investing in a future workforce to seize opportunities in our regional economy. Driving innovation and strengthening key sectors by prioritising a zero-carbon economy, land management, and the visitor economy.
