Fareham Borough Council is pleased to have issued two new grants from its Community Fund programme to support local good causes.
The Council has an annual allocation of funding to help support local charitable organisations that benefit the residents of Fareham. The most recent grants have been awarded to:
- Stop Domestic Abuse was awarded £4,999 towards replacement curtains and carpets at the Refuge in Fareham. The Refuge is a crucial facility for the area, providing a place of safety and support for women and children fleeing domestic abuse.
- 3rd Portchester Scouts, based at Cobham Hall in White Hart Lane, was also awarded £4,999 towards some expeditionary kayaks and paddleboards to increase and extend the range of activities it offers to its 88 scout members. The Scout Group already provides taster canoeing sessions for its members and those of neighbouring land-based scout groups. They have also committed to providing kayaking and paddle boarding taster sessions as part of the Council’s ‘Access All Areas’ summer activities for young people.
Executive Member of Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Sue Walker commented: “We are delighted to award these two very different organisations grant allocation from our Community Fund. Any non-profit community organisation or individual can apply for Community Funding and, as you can see, we consider applications from a diverse range of good causes which benefit all areas of the local community.”
Czarina Jacobs, Operations Director at Stop Domestic Abuse, said: “Stop Domestic Abuse are thrilled to receive this incredibly generous donation from Fareham Borough Council. Arriving at refuge can be a daunting experience for women and children and it is vital refuges are welcoming and provide a homely environment to support residents to live with dignity and start their journey toward a life free of domestic abuse. This grant will support countless families to develop positive memories together within the refuge which is the start of a safe and happy future.”
Peter Leach from 3rd Portchester Scouts added: “We are very proud to be a Royal Navy Recognised Sea Scout Group and a British Canoeing Affiliated Club. During the recent pandemic we have seen a real need for young people within our community to get back involved with activities again. With the support of Fareham Borough Council and other supporting organisations we have been able to expand our kayaking offering and also look to start Stand Up Paddle Boarding. This will make a huge difference to the young people and support them as we look to the future.”
