Businesses across the UK are navigating how they integrate AI into their operations. Womble Bond Dickinson conducted a landmark survey to gather insights from CEOs, CTOs, and business decision-makers – to understand how AI is being operationalised across industries.
“The View From The Top: How Business Leaders Are Operationalising AI” report explores the different approaches and maturity of AI adoption at a strategic and operational level, as well as the challenges and opportunities across sectors. From the CEOs shaping strategic direction and CTOs overseeing tech strategy and implementation, this report considers where priorities align, where they differ across roles and what hurdles could be faced as we progress through the fastest advancement in tech since the dot com boom.
Key findings include:
- Challenges in operationalising AI: The most significant challenges identified include high implementation costs (56% of CTOs), regulatory requirements (41% of CEOs), and data quality and availability (50% of CTOs)
- Drivers for AI adoption: The primary drivers for AI adoption differ between CEOs and CTOs. CEOs are motivated by improving performance (49%), driving innovation (39%), and making cost efficiencies (37%). CTOs, on the other hand, prioritize performance improvement (56%), data-driven decision-making (54%), and sustainability (50%)
- AI in decision making: AI is increasingly being used to support data-driven decision-making. For 67% of CTOs, AI has created new opportunities or competitive advantages through enhanced data-driven decision-making
- Ethical and regulatory concerns: Ethical concerns and regulatory requirements are significant barriers to AI adoption. Over half of the CTOs surveyed have a formal ethical framework in place, and many are developing or have developed formal policies and guidelines
