Regenerate South held its first meeting of 2026, focusing on identifying stalled sites and the action and collaboration needed to improve and regenerate the Central South region.
The session highlighted the importance of using the Good Growth framework as a guide for regional priorities, especially as the mayoral election has been delayed until 2028. The upcoming Mayoral Combined Authority, launching in April 2026, will provide a platform to support regional planning and investment, and Regenerate South aims to ensure stalled sites and funding opportunities are highlighted early.
Jonathan Rogers from Ridge presented to the group on the Building Safety Act 2022 and the Golden Thread, noting how regulatory requirements can affect delivery timelines and project viability. Attendees also discussed broader barriers to development, including infrastructure, environmental, and funding challenges, and the need for coordinated, practical solutions.
To address these issues, the group endorsed the creation of a Stalled & Challenging Sites Taskforce Group, which will prioritise key projects, analyse barriers, and seek practical wins through collaboration with councils and the Combined Authority. To register your interest, please to get in touch with our Action Group Coordinator, Joe Gowers, and our Regenerate South Chair, Gavin Hall.
The initiative underscores Regenerate South’s commitment to supporting regional development, driving good growth, and advancing complex projects across Hampshire and the Solent through a coordinated, collaborative approach.
