ViewHR, a Ringwood-based Business South champion, recently held a seminar on “the changing workplace and employment landscape” for HR. The practically-focused seminar, jointly hosted by Aspire Jobs, was held in Southampton and proved to be hugely informative.
The widely publicised Employment Rights Bill 2024 introduced by the Labour Government, along with previously introduced changes around Sexual Harassment legislation, pose potentially significant challenges for all employers. The purpose of the seminar was to provide clarity and context to help employers navigate and adapt to the changing employment landscape. Topics covered included:
- Zero- hour contracts
- Fire and re-hire
- Unfair Dismissal & probationary periods
- Collective Redundancies
- Sexual Harassment & third-party harassment
Paul Burton, an experienced employment lawyer at ViewHR, explains, “although these legislative changes are significant, employers can, by adopting a “planned and proactive approach” integrate them into best practice” ahead of the legal changes.
There is a clear demand for clarity and understanding as further consultation on the legal framework takes place. ViewHR works with and assists employers in establishing new processes in order to future-proof their workplace.
Helen Stacey, MD of Aspire Jobs, presented a complementary look at the latest employment market scene in the context of the proposed laws. Helen shared “Whilst there is clearly a lot of change around the corner, the need for professionalism and integrity in recruiting never changes. Excellent and right first-time recruitment can certainly reduce cost and eliminate many of the issues that are included in the new bill”.
Managing employees from recruitment through to exit, and all stages in between, has always posed challenges. ViewHR, as a Business South champion are very happy to work with any employer to ensure that the demands of the “changing workplace” can be met in a progressive, balanced and positive manner.
