KEY OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
Looking forward, the Central South continues to be a region of great opportunity with fantastic natural and heritage assets and a thriving economy. There are exciting opportunities in key sectors such as maritime, life sciences, digital and creative, and green technologies, and to power new developments from low carbon and renewable energy. Nevertheless, there is widespread recognition of the climate and ecological emergency faced globally.
Allied to this is acknowledgement of the need to increase low carbon and renewable energy, to protect the natural environment and in responding to the coronavirus pandemic seeking to ‘build back better, build back greener, build back faster’. To achieve this requires a commitment from all sectors of the community, with sustainability placed at the heart of development.
To secure the Central South’s future prosperity requires collaboration from the private sector, business organisations such as Business South, the local enterprise partnerships, local government and the wider community with significant opportunities across a range of economic sectors, both established and emerging.
Strong environmental principles have always been central to TOR’s consultancy advice, with many of our projects at the forefront of the UK’s national drive to achieve a zero carbon economy. TOR is now an independently accredited Carbon Neutral company and has set a target of achieving zero carbon status by 2030.
TOR is keen to continue to help deliver great projects for the Central South and is well placed to assist clients in bringing forward their low carbon and renewable technology schemes, with extensive experience across a range of sectors and bringing the benefits of an experienced, integrated team to the fore.
