Solent Gateway Ltd is pleased to announce that New Forest District Council has passed a resolution to grant planning consent for the development of Marchwood Port. The planning consent is now subject to the signing of a S106 legal agreement, which we hope will be completed in the near future.
The development of the port will modernise its operations and facilities, create new jobs and bring investment to the area, whilst providing improved capability and support to the Ministry of Defence.
The planning application for the port was submitted to the Council during summer 2021. The plans, which are all within the existing footprint of the port, include:
- the creation of additional hard standing
- improved site access with enhanced security facilities
- new warehousing
- welfare facilities
These improvements set out in SGL’s approved Masterplan will allow a wide range of cargoes and commodities to be transported through the port and stored onsite. The plans will deliver a biodiversity net gain of over 10% with enhancements at the port and in the nearby Cadland Estate.
The port is allocated for development in New Forest District Council adopted Local Plan under Policy Econ 3. It is also designated as a Tax Site and Customs Site within the successful Solent Freeport bid.
Solent Gateway Ltd’s Port Director, Richard Parkinson, said:“ Our application was the culmination of many months of hard work and I am delighted that New Forest District Council has passed a resolution to grant planning consent for the port’s development. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the local community and our partners.”
