Students from HSDC’s Havant Campus recently embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to The Big Apple! The annual trip saw 44 students studying Business, Accounting, Economics, Film and Media fly to New York City, providing them with the opportunity to experience one of the most exciting cities in the world.
The six-day trip was built around a jam-packed schedule that allowed students to visit some of NYC’s most iconic locations. Highlights included a moving visit to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the dizzying heights of the Empire State Building and a walk along the Brooklyn Bridge.
Subject-specific enrichment was a central part of the itinerary. Business, Accounting and Economics students were able to make the most of an Access-All-Areas tour of Madison Square Garden, giving them behind-the-scenes insights into one of the world’s most recognised events venues, whilst Film and Media students explored the Museum of the Moving Image. Optional visits to The Edge, Summit One Vanderbilt, MoMA, NBC Studios and the Rockefeller Centre gave many students a deeper look into industries that connect directly to their studies.
The group also had plenty of free time for shopping at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, and some were even able to watch a Broadway show and a basketball game! Students described the trip as transformative and unforgettable, with Anastasiia Kuchmenko being particularly inspired:
“My trip to New York City was truly the best time of my life. I had dreamed of visiting for so many years, imagining the skyline, the energy, and the endless opportunities, and when I finally arrived, it was even more magical than I expected. Deep in my heart I understood that I want to build my future in New York. I will definitely come back one day not just as a visitor, but to start the next chapter of my life there.”
Lyla Totterdell, another student on the trip, added:
“This trip was a magical opportunity with so many different activities and things to do!”
Staff accompanying the group praised the students’ maturity, engagement and enthusiasm throughout the visit. This trip supported not only academic achievement, but also independence, confidence, teamwork and cultural awareness – key attributes that support progression into university and future careers.
HSDC continues to champion international educational experiences as a way of broadening horizons and inspiring ambition. This year’s trip to New York marks one of the College’s most successful and memorable overseas visits to date.
