The latest Business South seminar focused on the digital future for business and the well attended online event covered everything from the future of retail to home working and beyond.
Speakers included Stuart Fenton, who covered 5G, artificial intelligence and all things tech; Chris Stanton from Guildford Borough Council who discussed innovation and local connectivity; Rob Dunford from EnterpriseM3 explained what was being done to improve connectivity and Warwick Hill from IBM looked at digital innovations for the future.
Speaking about home working, Stuart forecast: “We won’t see the death of the office, they will need to be there for team meetings and gatherings. But we will see a move away from high overheads and move towards a hybrid working model.”
Chris Stanton said we have all become digital commuters and Rob Dunford noted that UK internet use has doubled.
Warwick Hill said an unexpected consequence of digitisation was that it was taking longer to train people to use the technology and this was creating a skills gap. Far from taking jobs away, AI will increase jobs in the market, he forecast.
