Thank you to everyone who has backed Southampton Airport’s runway extension plans, either by registering a comment with Eastleigh Borough Council on the planning file or by contacting members of the Eastleigh Local Area Committee. I am grateful for the support that we have received for our application, which you can read more about at supportsouthamptonairport.com.
Late last year, I wrote to advise that the meeting of the Eastleigh Local Area Committee that was due to determine our runway planning application on 17th December 2020, would no longer take place. Having engaged closely with local neighbours, communities, and businesses throughout this process, and further reviewed the changing economic position, we found that we needed to take time to further refine our application. This is not unusual, given the complexity of the proposal.
I am now pleased to inform you that, following hard work over the New Year, we have provided additional information to Eastleigh Borough Council, which we believe will make it possible for the Council to take a decision on our critical runway plans. This new information primarily relates to the economic and business case for the extension, and includes more up-to-date data and forecasting which takes account of the latest economic situation.
New opportunity to support our plans
As a result of this submission, Eastleigh Borough Council has opened a new public consultation on our runway extension application, that will run until 5th March. Following this, we anticipate that a decision will be taken on our runway plans by the Eastleigh Local Area Committee in the coming weeks.
If you would like to view the latest information and or make your support known if you have not already done so, you now have an opportunity to register your support for our runway extension with Eastleigh Borough Council. To do this:
- Go to eastleigh.gov.uk/planning-and-building/southampton-airport-planning-application and submit your supportive comments directly;
- Or email your supportive comments regarding Southampton Airport’s runway plans, explaining why you believe the extension needs to go ahead, to planning@eastleigh.gov.uk. You will need to quote the reference F/19/86707 in your email.
The runway extension is the only way that the connectivity that we have offered to date can be sustained and the airport can remain viable, so I’d like to thank you for the support you have offered thus far, which I can assure you has made a significant difference.
