The former Fawley Power Station site remains one of the Central South’s most significant regeneration opportunities. Located on Southampton Water and surrounded by the New Forest National Park, the site has the potential to support new homes, employment opportunities and wider economic growth, while reconnecting the former industrial land with the surrounding coastline and landscape.
Fawley Power Station was decommissioned in 2013, with demolition of the former power station structures completed in 2023. Previous proposals for Fawley Waterside included 1,500 homes and the creation of more than 2,000 jobs. However, the two outline planning applications were formally withdrawn in July 2024 after assessments found that the proposed scheme was not financially viable.
Fawley Waterside is continuing to work with New Forest District Council and the New Forest National Park Authority to explore an appropriate and viable future development strategy for the site. Any future plans will need to reflect its important location, deliver benefits for the local economy and community, and protect the surrounding natural environment.
