Earlier this year, Fareham Borough Council launched the COVID Heroes Awards – a special recognition scheme dedicated to the organisations and individuals who worked tirelessly to support those in need during the pandemic
Members of the public were encouraged to nominate friends, neighbours or family members who provided help and support to make others’ lives easier during lockdown. Business could also be nominated for helping local people through non-profit activity. The Council received 85 nominations and, while all nominees received a special certificate of thanks from the Mayor and the Leader of the Council, overall winners have been selected in each category by the Council Executive.
The winners are:
Adults (over 18):
- Julie and Clint Sexton
- Sean and Caroline Whelan
- Richard Marrington
- Bev Shelsher
- Helen Osborn
Young People (under 18):
- Kaelem Cull
- William Doyle
Organisations:
- 1st Fareham Scout Group
- Fareham Meon Rotary Club
- Richards News
- One Community
These individuals and organisation representatives were all invited to a special celebration event hosted by the Council on 18 November and were presented with their awards.
Cllr Mrs Pamela Bryant, Mayor of Fareham, said: “The COVID Heroes Awards have taken the place of the Council’s annual ‘Citizen and Young Citizen of Honour Awards’ for one year only. They were created in recognition of the exceptional circumstances that have presented themselves during unprecedented recent times and the people and organisations who became a lifeline to others. We were delighted to welcome them to the Civic Offices to present their awards and acknowledge their outstanding contribution to our community.”
