What an inspiring day we had at the Workforce South Conference today (26th April), with thought-provoking presentations from speakers covering everything from Gen Z to inclusivity, diversity and equality.
Chair of the Workforce South Action Group, Zoe Huggins, kept a tight rein on proceedings throughout the day and ensured everyone had an opportunity to share their thoughts on a future workforce.
Liam McConnell from ReQuire Consultancy got the day underway sharing fascinating insights about Gen Z.
Gary Whittle, Commercial Director at Meachers Global Logistics explained what the Maritime and Transport Action Group has been doing to attract more people to the sector. He underlined the strength of the MTAG group and what can be achieved with collaboration.
A panel session was the opportunity for HSDC apprentice Amy Stafford and T- level student Seb Gershon to shine. They talked about their experience of the workplace so far and how they hope their careers will unfold.
The afternoon session got underway with Dr Liam Satchell from the University of Winchester underlining the importance of understanding bias in an organisation.
Sophie Cartledge of Hormones on the Blink made a plea for greater openness around the effect of menopause on the workforce and shared what business can do to help those on the menopause/perimenopause journey.
And the day came to a close with Jo Phillips, Chief People Director at Carnival UK. She has shared why Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is a strategic priority for their business and gave fascinating insights into how they are tackling this important area.
Business South Group CEO, Leigh-Sara Timberlake, said: “The level of debate and discussion was really high and we were so delighted to welcome students from HSDC to be part of our day.”
