The Public Services Course at HSDC is the perfect way for aspiring service personnel to develop specialist knowledge and skills required for a career in the sector.
Recently, HSDC South Downs hosted members of various services for a day of educational enrichment for the Public Services students. 73 students were interviewed by members of Hampshire Fire & Rescue, the RAF, the Army, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, Royal Military Police and Ministry of Defence Police.
This was part of an annual careers assignment that all Public Services students, from Level 1 to Level 3, participate in to gain a valuable insight into life in the services. Each student had a 10 minute interview with their chosen service, and whilst they were initially nervous, these nerves quickly turned to excitement.
The interviewers gave observational feedback which the students are currently analysing to see where they can improve on in the future, with the eventual goal being to prepare them for a career in uniformed services.
With students from all levels attending, the event was accessible, ensuring that every student was given an equal opportunity to experience the interview setting.
Representatives from the University of Portsmouth were also in attendance, highlighting the strong relationship that HSDC has with higher education institutions.
At the end of the academic year, these students joined their fellow PDS comrades from Alton College for the annual Pass Off Parade at Fort Purbrook. This was a fantastic display of their discipline and skills, and a fitting send-off for those leaving HSDC this summer.
HSDC prides itself on its links to the public sector, and often hosts guest speakers from different public services to further enrich the education of its students. Through these links, the College ensures that all public service students are provided with both internal and external support, guidance and understanding as they work towards their qualifications and next steps.
