Trethowans is delighted to welcome Jonathan Bailey as a Partner in its Agricultural & Rural Property team.
Jonathan is a highly experienced solicitor with over 20 years’ experience in complex land, development and property transactions. He trained in the City of London with a leading international law firm and qualified in 2002. Since then, he has built a strong practice advising landowners, businesses and local authorities on a wide range of agricultural, rural and commercial property matters.
Jonathan’s work focuses on providing practical, commercially driven advice to help clients achieve their objectives. He has particular expertise in option and promotion agreements for land development, supporting clients from early negotiations through to completion and helping them realise significant value from their assets. His experience includes acting for a Salisbury-based landowner in relation to an option agreement and subsequent sale of land for a development of more than 500 homes, as well as advising on high-value transactions involving hotels and prime residential property. He also has extensive experience assisting farming families with partnership arrangements and asset transfers for tax planning purposes.
Jonathan commented: “I’m very excited to be joining Trethowans. The firm has an excellent reputation for delivering clear, pragmatic advice and I look forward to working with clients across the agricultural and rural sector. This is a great opportunity to join a top-rated team and support landowners and businesses in navigating increasingly complex development and property matters.”
Marcus Thorpe, Partner and Head of the Agricultural & Rural Property team, added:
“Jonathan is a fantastic addition to our team. His experience in high‑value development work, together with his deep understanding of rural property matters, enhances the breadth of expertise we offer. He brings a highly commercial approach that will benefit landowners and farming businesses across the region.”
