#BeeWell is a youth-centred programme led by The University of Manchester, The Gregson Family Foundation and Anna Freud. Together with our partners, we listen to the voices of young people, act together for change and celebrate young people’s wellbeing.
Where #BeeWell started
#BeeWell started when David Gregson, a philanthropist and board member of multiple national charities and sporting bodies, contacted The University of Manchester in 2019 looking to collaborate on a project to address his concerns about the wellbeing of young people in the UK.
The #BeeWell programme has expanded into Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton (HIPS) for 2023. Building on the success in Greater Manchester, this expansion will help us identify the issues affecting young people’s wellbeing across the local area, as well as enhancing our understanding of the issues nationally.
Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton is a diverse region, located in the south of England, with a population of 2 million and a mix of urban, rural and coastal neighbourhoods. #BeeWell selected a second location in the south of England with plenty of different characteristics to the programme’s first location, Greater Manchester, in the north of England.
#BeeWell has already started working with young people from across the HIPS region. Mainstream schools, special schools, independent schools and alternative provision settings are all participating in the programme. We’re eager to involve as many young people and schools in the region as possible!
