Surrey County Council has formed a new collaboration with Business South, joining the business support organisation’s coveted Champions programme to help foster local economic development.
The new affiliation will provide a platform for promoting the county, encouraging inward investment, and championing priorities for Surrey’s local businesses to enable growth.
The Business South Champion Programme is a business network that has grown to become an influential industry-led community, with a shared vision for economic progression in the Central South region. Business South Champions work collaboratively on sector development through dedicated Action Groups, providing a collective business voice, and promoting the area nationally and internationally.
The Champions form a diverse business network, which includes leaders from both the public and private sectors, working collaboratively on projects for regional economic development.
Becoming a Business South Champion forms part of a wider strategy by Surrey County Council’s Economy and Growth Team, to attract new businesses to the county, and to grow local businesses in Surrey.
The new partnership with Business South will enable the involvement and engagement with companies to ensure that actions are focussed in direct response to business needs. Business South has been a facilitator of business support initiatives in the Central South region of the UK for fifteen years. The organisation is situated at the heart of the business community with established and reputable channels to engage directly with local businesses.
Surrey will also be part of Business South’s regional, national and international destination marketing campaigns which help attract new inward investment to the region.
Cllr Tim Oliver, Leader of Surrey County Council said:
“We are delighted to be collaborating with Business South to emphasise the opportunities for companies in Surrey. We are committed to creating the best possible environment for businesses through closer engagement and firm actions, as outlined in Surrey’s Economic Future, published earlier this year. Working closely with Business South will enable us to talk to more businesses and highlight the work we are doing.”
Leigh-Sara Timberlake, Group Chief Executive at Business South said:
“Business South specialises in facilitating relationships between the private and public sectors for mutual economic benefit. We cannot support private businesses and local economies without our public sector partners, and I am delighted to welcome Surrey County Council as our latest Champion.
Business South, and our Champions, look forward to working with the team at Surrey County Council, in promoting the county externally and supporting existing Surrey businesses.”
