Whenever we hold one of our popular Directors of the Future dinners you can guarantee plenty of positivity in the room and a flurry of activity on LinkedIn the following day.
Our latest dinner sponsored by the University of Southampton Business School was no exception.
The idea of the evening is to bring together established business leaders from across the Central South region with business students from the university.
Business South Group CEO, Leigh-Sara Timberlake, explained: “The evening allows students and business leaders to mix in a social setting that is a bit more relaxed.
“Whenever we hold these dinners, the business leaders are always so impressed with the students who they see as the directors of the future.”
Mike Warren, regional manager for Harbour Hotels, welcomed everyone to the Southampton Harbour Hotel and gave a fascinating industry update before dinner was served.
At a previous dinner held in conjunction with the Southampton Business School, it was suggested that it would be good to include a speaker who studied at Southampton and who has gone on to run their own business.
Will Wiseman fitted the bill perfectly as he studied Entrepreneurship at Southampton Business School and has gone on to establish his own luxury watch business, Wiseman’s Watches.
The room was entranced as he told the story of how he began his business and the lessons he has learned along the way.
Professor Laura Costanzo, Head of Southampton Business School, said she welcomed business leaders getting more involved as mentors for their students giving back to the students and the broader community as an inspiring role model.
She also highlighted the significance of seeing a Southampton Business School alumnus as keynote speaker at the event.
