The Regenerate South Action Group, led by Business South, met at Building 41 in Cowes to discuss future growth opportunities for the Central South.
Cllr Phil Jordan, Leader of the Isle of Wight Council, welcomed delegates, stressing that the Island is “open for business” and preparing for devolution. Priorities include transport, skills, housing, and business growth, with the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Mayoral election in 2026 seen as a key milestone.
Chair Gavin Hall (Savills) updated members on the Vision Document, a long-term regeneration plan shaped by workshops and action groups across energy, housing, transport, skills, and investment. Finalisation is planned ahead of the 2026 election.
Discussions highlighted the potential of water transport as a “quick win” for improving connectivity, alongside the need for integrated ticketing and a stronger inward investment strategy.
Closing the meeting, Neil Chapman of Red Funnel emphasised the operator’s 164-year role in the region, with over 500 weekly services and the upcoming launch of a 160-seater Foil Electric vessel to complement the Red Jet fleet.
The day reflected strong collaboration between councils and businesses, supported by the hospitality of Building 41, smooth crossings with Red Funnel, and catering from Richmond’s Bakery.
