| New Forest District Council (NFDC) has approved a new five-year Economic Development Strategy to support jobs, attract investment, and grow the local economy. |
| The strategy sets out a clear plan to help businesses succeed, improve skills, and bring new opportunities to the area, while protecting what makes the New Forest unique.
It focuses on supporting key sectors including tourism, marine and ports, and green technology, alongside creating higher-value jobs and strengthening town centres. Councillor Derek Tipp, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economy, said: “This is about turning ambition into action for the New Forest. We want to create an economy where local people can build successful careers, where businesses feel supported to grow, and where investment brings real benefits to our communities. “We are building on what makes the New Forest special, while making sure we are ready to seize new opportunities and meet the challenges ahead with confidence.” The plan also highlights the importance of working with partners such as the Solent Freeport and regional organisations to unlock investment and support regeneration. It comes at a time of significant change, with new council structures due to be introduced across Hampshire in 2028. The strategy ensures the New Forest is well placed to secure funding, support communities and maintain momentum during this transition. The council will now move forward with delivering the strategy, continuing to support residents, businesses and local communities.
