| New Forest District Council (NFDC) is inviting residents and stakeholders to have their say on the draft New Milton Neighbourhood Plan as part of a second statutory consultation. |
| Neighbourhood plans give local communities greater influence over development in their area by setting planning policies that guide where new homes, shops, and offices are built. They can also help shape the design of development, influence how infrastructure is provided, and ensure growth reflects local needs and priorities.
The draft New Milton Neighbourhood Plan was originally submitted by New Milton Town Council in October 2025 and consulted on earlier this year. Since that time, new Basic Conditions for neighbourhood plans have been introduced by the Government through the Levelling‑up and Regeneration Act 2023. In response, New Milton Town Council has prepared an Addendum to the Basic Conditions Statement, which must be subject to a minimum six‑week consultation in accordance with Regulation 16 of the Neighbourhood Planning Regulations. NFDC is re‑running the Regulation 16 consultation to ensure compliance with these updated requirements. All comments submitted during the earlier consultation will still be considered, and respondents do not need to submit a further response unless they wish to comment specifically on the addendum. Residents can comment on the documents online from Wednesday 29 April 2026 until 5pm on Friday 12 June 2026 by visiting NFDC’s neighbourhood plan consultation webpage: Alternatively, comments may be submitted by email to policyandplans@nfdc.gov.uk. New Milton Town Council began reviewing its made neighbourhood plan in February 2024 and has undertaken public consultation to help shape the final draft plan. Following this consultation, the Neighbourhood Plan and all representations received will be considered by an independent Examiner. If the Plan is supported at examination, the final stage will be a local referendum, in which the community of New Milton will be asked whether they support the Neighbourhood Plan.
